Maureen McPeek
Maureen McPeek is a certified elementary school teacher with over 30 years of experience in classroom instruction, reading intervention, and one-on-one tutoring. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a valid teaching credential. Her recent professional development includes training in the Science of Reading, the Orton-Gillingham approach, and the California Reading & Literature Project. Maureen specializes in helping students develop foundational literacy skills and discover the joy of reading. Her instructional philosophy emphasizes a multisensory, hands-on learning environment that integrates explicit, sequential instruction to empower every child to become a confident and capable reader.I seek to understand the reason for assessment referral. Information such as developmental history, a review of any previous assessments & previous school and current school performance is important. This information will guide the specific neurocognitive, acadacemic and processing areas (ex: attention, auditory, visual) to assess.
Colleen McPeek
Colleen McPeek has been an educator for 25 years, with 20 years as a K/1/2 lead teacher. Colleen has served in multiple leadership roles in her career: as a board member (San Carlos Charter, Peninsula School), programmatic team leader, and mentor teacher. She earned her BA and teaching credential from NDNU in Belmont. Her many years of continuing education and training has focused on literacy, math, and mindfulness. This has included multiple summers at the Writing Institute at Columbia University, the Slingerland Multisensory Handwriting Methodology training, Linda Mood-Bell Phoneme Sequencing, and the Phonological Awareness Orton-Gillingham training at the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. Math training workshops included those offered by the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative and the Noyce Foundation. Colleen has also participated in a weeklong training with Daniel Rechtschaffen, author of The Way of Mindful Education, and multiple courses with Mindful Schools.”The assessment often consists of an IQ assessment, a broad academic assessment, additional academic / neuropsychological assessments in the area of referral concern, cognitive processing assessments and a social-emotional assessment (ex: anxiety, depression, adaptive skills). Information is typically gathered from parents, the child, and teachers to have the most comprehensive understanding possible.
